Installation of Turbogenerator

Back to case studies

Increased power cogeneration

Ausenco developed the concept and provided engineering services for the installation of a 3.3 MW bottoming steam turbine generator set to increase the power generation capacity of the mill to 27.3 MW.

The new turbogenerator uses 80 psig exhaust steam from the existing 24 MW turbogenerator, which was previously and continuously sent to the balance condenser and the hot water to sewer.

Start-up of the new facility was completed in June 1996, and excess power is now being exported to the local utility.

We had previously provided detail design and construction management services for the installation of the original steam and electric power plant consisting of 64 kg/s (504,000 lb/h) black liquor recovery boiler and 63 kg/s (500,000 lb/h) hog fuel and oil-fired boiler and 24 MW single automatic extraction back-pressure turbine generator.
