We provided engineering services work for Enerplus’ proposed commercial SAGD project at Kirby. The scope of work included the development of the process design basis, process simulations, process flow diagrams, heat and material balance, equipment list and plot plans.
A conceptual model and a 3D rendering of the facility was developed. Additional work involved supporting the Enerplus regulatory applications and coordinating with the environmental consultants. For this purpose, water balances and emission calculations were generated.
The process design for the 10,000 bbl/day plant included produced water recycle and brackish water make-up, with lime softening and WAC softening for water treatment. Steam generated from the once-through boilers is sent to the well pads.
The well pads area consisted of the distribution and gathering systems and separation facilities. The pre-application portion of the project was completed in a short time frame of six months, from initial concept to readiness for application submittal.
