Marampa Tailings Retreatment Plant

Back to case studies

Tailings reprocessing at iron ore mine

The Marampa Iron Ore Project consists of developing a tailings reprocessing operation at the Marampa mine in Sierra Leone, transporting finished product by road (40 km) to a nearby port and barging the product (60 km) out to deep water for transhipment onto handymax, panamax or capesize ships.

The first phase of the project is for a throughput of 1.5 Mt/y of sinter feed.

The project owner and developer, London Mining Plc, are also investigating an expansion of the processing plant to 3 Mt/y before a further expansion to 5-8 Mt/y based on mining of the primary resource.

Ausenco performed the engineering and procurement of the process plant portion of the Marampa Iron Ore Project along with managing the project controls for the entire scope of the project, from mine to port.
