Environmental Study Report - Mount Pleasant Station

Back to case studies

The City of Brampton is experiencing rapid growth in residential construction, particularly in the northwest corner of the municipality. To make this area supportive of public transit, it is imperative that local and regional transit facilities and services be made available to all potential users.

The area around the intersection of Bovaird Drive (Highway 7) and Creditview Road was therefore identified for a multi-modal transportation hub.

GO Transit retained the services of Ausenco to carry out a Class Environmental Assessment to evaluate the proposed site. Data regarding existing conditions, acquired through field investigations and communication with agencies was collected and documented.

The information gathered on existing conditions was presented in the report. Alternative solutions for the project were analysed and a preferred solution was selected.

These solutions were evaluated based on GO Transit users and public traffic needs and impacts, safety, social impacts, technical feasibility, environmental impacts, and economic impacts. Input from the public and government agencies was also taken into account in selecting the preferred solution.

The study team consulted with external agencies, including the City of Brampton, the Region of Peel and the Credit Valley Conservation for their requirements and input in the planning process for the study.

Other agencies contacted during the Environmental Assessment included the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Brampton Board of Trade and the Brampton Historical Society.

Preliminary engineering work was initiated in November 2002 to develop a preferred layout suitable for presentation to external agencies and the general public.
