Ausenco awarded Contract Miner of the Year at Australian Mining Prospect Awards

Ausenco was awarded Contract Miner of the Year at the Australian Mining Prospect Awards in Sydney on 1 November for its innovative design solution on Newcrest’s Cadia East project.

Ausenco CEO Zimi Meka said it was a great honour to receive the award and acknowledged the Ausenco team that worked on the project.

“The Australian Mining Prospect Awards recognise the best in the industry and it’s a real testament to the ingenuity and expertise of the Ausenco team to receive this award amongst some strong competition,” Mr Meka said.

“I congratulate the team involved for this significant achievement and for their dedication to identifying an innovative and successful design solution for our client.”

Ausenco’s Chief Technical Officer Greg Lane, who has been working on Cadia related projects for twenty years, said Ausenco applied a world first use of HPGR technology prior to a SAG mill to expand the existing concentrator while at the same time increasing the energy efficiency of the comminution circuit by up to 25%.

“Through the solution designed by the Ausenco and Newcrest team, the Cadia East concentrator will be able to achieve increased throughput, and handle much harder ore with greater energy efficiency” Mr Lane said.

“This application of technology has many benefits, both for the Cadia East project and the broader industry, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and smoother, more flexible plant operation.”

Newcrest Mining Limited’s Cadia East project involves the development of the Cadia East deposit, a world class copper and gold deposit. Due for completion in 2013, the project will be the deepest panel cave in the world and Australia’s largest underground mine, with an expected mine life of over 30 years.
