Australian engineering firm Ausenco has been recognised as one the Australia's leading exporters of services and technology when it was awarded the Queensland Experter of the Year Award recently.

The award came hot on the heels of Ausenco being awarded the contract to design and construct Sino Gold's Jinfeng Gold Project located in Guizhou Province in southern China. Basic engineering started in September in Ausenco's Brisbane office with detailed design and procurement expected to take place in Nanchang China in conjunction with a Chinese Design Institute.

The Jinfeng Gold Project is a 200,00 ounce per annum refractory gold project comprising, crushing, grinding, flotation, biological leaching utilising BIOX® technology, CIL processing and associated infrastructure. The project is the first greenfield gold project to be undertaken by a Western mining company in China.

Ausenco has secured work projects in almost every south-east Asian country in the past few years. It's current work activities include the feasibility study and basic engineering for the Oyu Tolgio Project in Mongolia, design and construction of Oxiana's Sepon Copper-Gold Project in Laos, the design and construction of Highlands Pacific's Kainantu Gold Project in Papau New Guinea, the feasibility study for Newmont's Martabe Gold Project in Indonesia and the feasibility study for Herald Resource's Dairi Zinc-Lead Project in Indonesia.

Ausenco is currently completing projects with a total capital value of AU$2 billion in various parts of the world including China, Indonesia, Laos, Mongolia, Papau New Guinea, Philippines, Tanzania and Vietman.

From a company that started almost 14 years ago in 1991 in Brisbane, it has grown from humble beginnings now having worked in 25 countries and in the past 18 months has doubled its revenue to between AU$80 - $100 million annually.
