Safety

Our people work in a wide range of conditions, climates and countries. Their wellbeing and safety at work is our highest priority and our greatest challenge. Our goal is to achieve zero harm across all our operations. This means no safety incidents, regardless how small, on any of our sites. Everyone at Ausenco is committed to achieving this goal and our Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) management system, project specfic HSEC Management plans, processes and behaviours support these endeavours.

Community

At Ausenco, we work with our local communities to create inspiring partnerships that help build capacity, improve the quality of life and develop local skills. Our people strive to make a positive impact on the world around them and we support their individual fundraising efforts through the Ausenco Foundation. In 2010, through the Ausenco Foundation, we contributed to many worthwhile causes including helping to re-build communities devastated by the Haiti and Chile earthquakes and supporting numerous local charities and causes. In 2011 we have already supported a number of our people who were severely affected by the floods in Queensland and sponsored the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Queensland Insitute of Medical Research to help find a cure for cancer.

We also recognise the importance of ongoing education in the communities in which we work. We seek to provide scholarships to study abroad, graduate work opportunities and sponsorship programs. For example, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, we sponsor a student through the Cemin Award which honours the best student in the course of mining engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG).

Environment

We respect the environment and apply emerging technologies to engineer for the future. As a world leader in engineering and environmental consulting, our solutions help protect the environment, conserve resources and improve energy efficiency.  Some of the key initiatives undertaken over the last year included:

• Assessing and implementing plans to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions over our global operations
• Proactive and active involvement in Earth Hour
• Support for and activities related to the United Nations' World Environment Day
• Development and implementation of a range of sustainability solutions for our clients including:
  • Biomass and renewable resource utilisation
  • Waste to energy projects
  • Energy efficiency studies
  • Greenhouse gas inventory management
  • Greenhouse gas reduction project planning and validation
  • Greenhouse gas business solutions
  • Environmental base line studies
  • Due diligence activities.
