Ausenco Sandwell designed balance of plant facilities for the addition of a SCR system for two Westinghouse 501F combustion turbines for Florida Power Corporation's (FPC) Hines Energy Complex - Power Block 1, a 500 MW combined-cycle facility in Bartow, Florida.

W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc. approached Ausenco Sandwell in May 1998 when Power Block 1 was nearing completion, as Westinghouse needed a responsive, reliable design build approach to install and commission two SCR storage and supply systems per a fast track schedule. Ausenco Sandwell engineered a system that supplies 3.3 gpm of 28% aqueous ammonia solution from a 30,000 gallon storage tank to two 90% effective SCRs, reducing NOx in the exhaust gas stream to single digits.

Ausenco Sandwell teamed with W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc. to execute the design-build contract in three months to the satisfaction of Westinghouse and FPC.
