The City of Burnaby retained Ausenco Sandwell to do the conceptual and detailed design for the Barnet Marine Park. The park includes a footbridge to provide access to the park over rail tracks to an elevated promenade-like shoreline structure. Burnaby mandated that the footbridge should be a signature structure and Ausenco Sandwell developed a number of conceptual design options. Ausenco Sandwell recommended the tripod design and Burnaby chose it as the preferred option. The footbridge consists of three tapered steel box girder supports arranged in a tripod configuration with cable supports to a deck of concrete slabs on steel girders. At the north end of the footbridge a spiral staircase provides access down to the elevated shoreline structure.
