This EPC contract was for the provision of a cogeneration facility comprising a combination fuel boiler, turbine generator, surface condenser and cooling tower, feedwater and feedwater makeup treatment system, and fuel handling and ash disposal systems.

The boiler is a field erected B&W combination unit designed to fire wood waste, pulverised coal, and oil. It is rated at 700,000 lb/h at 1500 psig and 950° F. The GE double automatic extraction, condensing turbine is rated at 71,000 kW at 1450 psig and 950° F, with an 82,000 kVA hydrogen cooled, static exciter generator. The electrostatic precipitator is an Environmental Elements dual chamber, split box, rigid electrode ESP with 4 electrical fields on each side.

Auxiliary equipment and systems include multimedia filters, two-bed demineraliser and mixed-bed polisher system; condensate polisher; deaerator, feedwater heater and feedwater pumps; surface condenser and cooling tower. Systems were provided for handling and conveying wood waste and coal, and for disposal of ash. Electrical power distribution, utility tie-line controls and integrated distributed control systems were also provided.

The plant was constructed at a cost-effective $1,300/kW and initial operation began in February 1987after a 22 month fast-track schedule. The facility operates in excess of 98% availability and plant output exceeds guarantees. Surplus power is sold to the local utility.
