Longest and highest operation pressure of any pipeline in China

The Da Hong Shan pipeline is one of the longest and has the highest operation pressure of any pipeline in China. This is one of the few slurry pipelines in the world that pumps steeply uphill over most of its length and it has the largest total lift of any pipeline.

Commissioned in 2007, the 171km, nine-inch diametre pipeline system is designed to transport a maximum of 2.3 Mtpa of iron concentrate from the Da Hong Shan iron mine site in Yunnan Province, China to the steel mill at the Anning Terminal.

Ausenco PSI's scope included conceptual design, basic and detailed engineering, construction supervision, start-up and commissioning and operator training. This state-of-the-art pipeline system utilises three high-pressure pump stations with a maximum discharge pressure of 25 MPa.

Ausenco PSI also provided a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, including system integration, programming and field installation; a fibre optic telecommunications system; and Pipeline Advisor for process optimisation and leak detection.
