Ausenco Sandwell was awarded the project for the upgrade of secondary effluent treatment as well as the implementation of tertiary effluent treatment at this kraft, newsprint, and groundwood type paper mill.

The upgraded secondary effluent treatment system includes two primary clarifiers, a flow equalisation basin, an indirect cooling system, two aeration basins with surface aerators, two secondary clarifiers, primary and secondary sludge handling, neutralisation and nutrient addition system and associated piping, electrical and automation system.

The tertiary effluent treatment is by cloth filtration to further reduce the BOD and COD discharge. This method is the first of its kind in the pulp and paper industry.
