Ausenco Sandwell was chosen to provide conceptual engineering and detail design services for the Power Boiler 19 project for MB Paper at Powell River. The boiler was fired on hog fuel 19 months after award of the contract to Foster Wheeler Pyropower, Inc.

The project includes a bubbling fluidised bed power boiler, electrostatic precipitator and the balance of plant to support the installation, as well as mill improvements to rationalise the operation of the new boiler, which is integrated with an adjacent facility. The existing No. 1 steam plant operation with its 3 hog fuel/gas fired power boilers were to be retired.

Ausenco Sandwell designed the boiler building, hog fuel facilities and the balance of plant; coordinated engineering with the boiler supplier, and prepared individual contract and purchasing technical documents. Ausenco Sandwell also assisted MB Paper with equipment selection and project scheduling. The major components of the new installation include:

-Bubbling fluidised bed boiler to produce 74 kg/s of 6500 kPa steam @ 477o C at MCR while firing 62% moisture hog fuel or on natural gas
- Single chamber, 5-field electrostatic precipitator
- Stacker-reclaimer, 17,000 m3 live storage
- Hog fuel screening and handling system
- Expanded and modified feedwater treatment plant
