Year-round oil loading in ice-covered waters
The Tanker Loading Unit (TLU) is the first structure of its kind and was designed to safely load oil tankers throughout the year in ice-covered waters. Ausenco Sandwell completed the FEED and detailed design of the piled substructure.
The TLU substructure is designed to resist significant ice, wave, wind, seismic and vessel collision loads. Advanced finite element non-linear models were used to analyse the TLU for the various load cases.
Safety was of prime importance for both the construction and operation phases. In particular, Ausenco Sandwell designed extensive heat tracing of the structure to enhance safety for the entry and egress of operational personnel.
