Built in 1938, the Pattullo Bridge crosses the Fraser River between New Westminster and Surrey. The bridge is 1.22 km long with 31 steel and concrete spans and 4 traffic lanes. Throughout the 1980s, working for the Ministry, Ausenco Sandwell was responsible for:

• Replacement of the joint and steel floor beams to the river piers

In 1995 the Ministry retained Ausenco Sandwell to conduct a preliminary seismic assessment of the bridge. In 1999 the Ministry retained Ausenco Sandwell to do a full condition and rehabilitation study, with cost estimates, to facilitate transfer of ownership of the bridge to Translink. Subsequently, in 2006, Translink retained Ausenco Sandwell to do the preliminary design for the rehabilitation, widening and seismic retrofitting of the bridge.
