- Brand:
- Ausenco Sandwell
- Client:
- Ministry of Transportation and Highways
- Location:
- New Westminster, BC, Canada
The Ministry of Transportation and Highways commissioned Ausenco Sandwell to conduct a seismic evaluation of the Queensborough Bridge. This was the first such evaluation of any bridge in BC for the Ministry. The evaluation included a detailed review of upgrading alternatives for both functional and safety retrofits. Based on the seismic evaluation report it was decided that a seismic safety retrofit should be undertaken. Subsequently, detailed designs were prepared for:
• Footing overlays on south bents
• Future provision for functional retrofit
• Steel jackets at footing column splice
• Functional retrofit of bent footings in the BC Rail yard
• Traffic control to minimise traffic disruption on Marine Way
The construction was successfully completed with minimal delays to traffic on this project which was the first seismic safety retrofit on a major bridge in the province.
