BC Transit hired Ausenco Sandwell to renovate and upgrade a 40,000 SF building that was outdated and underutilised. The building was renovated in 3 phases over a two year period to provide a variety of new facilities including offices and lunch rooms, mill-work/carpenter shop, sheet metal shop, paint shops, plumbing/electrical shop, sign shop/graphics lab, security office, and money counting facility. As the prime consultant, Ausenco Sandwell coordinated the architectural subconsultant, and provided all structural, seismic, civil, electrical and mechanical detailed design services and construction field services for the entire project. The facility was upgraded to current seismic, electrical and plumbing code requirements including installation of a new sprinkler system. The seismic design incorporated new shear walls to replace existing unreinforced masonry walls and exterior steel bracing. Key issues included accommodating all the specific user requirements and providing suitable ventilation design for each process area.
