West Coast Express - Ancillary Services Electrical Engineering for Rail Stations

Brand:
Ausenco Sandwell
Client:
BC Transit
Location:
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Completed:
1996

BC Transit was commissioned in 1994 to provide a commuter rail service between Mission and Vancouver, and Ausenco Sandwell seconded staff for the project's electrical engineering services. Services included:

• Passenger stations electrical load estimation
• Coordination with BC Hydro and BC Telephone for services
• Preparation of stations’ power and telephone kiosk drawings
• Preparation of purchase inquiries for kiosks, luminaires, lighting poles
• Field inspection of kiosks during fabrication
• Field inspection of pole fabrication and zinc coating.

Due to the fast track nature of the project, the selection, procurement, and delivery of electrical equipment was critical to the success of the project. The major electrical equipment for all the passengers stations was purchased and warehoused. This allowed for better pricing, a uniform “look” to all the stations, and a guaranteed availability to the electrical construction contractor. This approach allowed the project to be completed on schedule in 1996.
