The Opportunity and Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Windows Systems Engineer to join the Global Infrastructure team in Vancouver.

The Windows Systems Engineer is a member of the Global Infrastructure Team which is charged with availability, performance, security and maintenance of the production Windows environment of Ausenco and where applicable ensuring that these production services meet or exceed their prescribed SLAs.

The role involves the maintenance, improved design, and implementation of the Windows environment and associated systems and software as well as providing 24x7 supports for essential services. The environment includes Windows Server, Citrix, and Microsoft SCCM as well as the Desktop environment and portable PC's. The Windows Systems Engineer is expected to mentor team members in the attainment of knowledge of the Windows environment.

As well as technical skills and knowledge, this role also requires that the person possesses solid team skills and ethic, is able to communicate well with others and understands the importance of the requirement of providing service to end users.

 We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network and system performance issues.
  • Implement, tune, configure and maintain the Windows environment and associated systems and software optimal performance.
  • Monitor network performance, security, and capacity and provide recommendations to ensure a proactive approach.
  • Ensure data integrity by keeping all relevant documentation up to date and recording on progress and actions taken for each task in the ticketing system.
  • Maintain awareness of processes, policies and procedures in Ausenco information services and provide guidance and recommendations regarding communications directions.
  • Provides proactive advice on system improvements and project proposals.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery of IT systems, by ensuring backup and disaster recovery processes are adhered to for all systems, with quarterly updates to all relevant system documentation and processes.
  • Remains current on new technologies.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of the team by providing support to other team members, proactively working towards agreed training goals and undertaking professional development activities.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Your attributes and accomplishments will include:

  • 5+ years Windows IT systems engineer experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, or equivalent certifications and experience. 
  • Outstanding knowledge and experience of IT systems including; Windows 7 & 8, Windows deployment services, (SCCM), Windows DNS and DHCP, Windows Certificate services, VMware and other virtualisation platforms, Storage and Cloud hosted services, Microsoft Powershell, IIS and IAS. 
  • Proficiency in design, build and management of corporate physical and virtual infrastructure in Windows server 2008 and 2012 environments as well as Active Directory and Deployment via Group Policy, design, implement, monitor and maintain global services.
  • Confident around modern emerging technology including servers and storage.
  • Focused on the outcome for the team and the company.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, written and verbal.
  • Good mentoring skills.
