Since joining Ausenco I've worked at various levels including executive positions, around the globe on a range of projects. I've written papers and presented Ausenco many times on the global stage; I've learned new languages, cultures and absorbed deeply and richly from these experiences. Through this experience, two things really stand out - Ausenco's diversity and our drive to deliver intelligent solutions.
The diversity comes through delivering solutions on a global basis spanning multiple geographic locations, regions and cultures. Our culture is to focus on intelligent, cost effective solutions, rather than just doing what's always been done before. I take pride in being able to leverage a fantastic team of professionals to deliver innovative, practical and cost effective solutions for our clients.
To someone considering joining Ausenco, I'd say you get out what you put in. Bring your energy, drive and creativity to all that you do in the business. Share your ideas and innovate as you collaborate - the rewards are many and broad and you'll enjoy being part of an environment where people are encouraged to challenge their boundaries.
We provide innovative and effective outcomes to manage risk within project parameters. We take on processing and infrastructure challenges, often in difficult and remote locations: from tropical rainforests, to remote deserts, to tops of mountains. We respect the environment and habitat by meeting compliance standards; managing and conserving water resources; limiting impacts on noise, dust, and air quality; incorporating safety and security measures in our process and plant designs.
Every study, detail design or construction job is subtly different and raises specific issues that need to be addressed and solved in a practical, timely and cost-effective way. These are the kinds of challenges we respond to and solve.
An example of this is a project in which the conventional and most direct processing strategy proved to be less efficient and more expensive due to the nature of the ore and the variability in mineralisation. An iterative options assessment programme with the client and the other consultants identified the input parameters with higher confidence which then allowed processing alternatives to be rigorously assessed. Although more complex, the resultant processing strategy was more robust, achieved higher metal recoveries and had lower capital and operating costs than that in the initial flow sheet.
My advice to those thinking of joining Ausenco? Take the opportunity to expand your own thinking – challenge the status quo and seek better outcomes.
