Stefan joined Ausenco in 2019 as Project Director, responsible for leading the overall project execution of mining projects in North America. This includes leading the engineering, procurement and construction of projects, as well as interfacing with clients, developing execution strategies, and providing expertise as a subject matter expert.
Stefan has held various roles throughout his career, including structural engineer/lead, engineering manager, and project manager and project director for EPCM companies and Owner’s project teams. He excels in his role as Project Director by drawing from his strong technical, construction and commissioning background which allows him to take projects from the pre-feasibility/feasibility study phase through to the detailed design and construction phase. Stefan’s experience working for EPCM project teams and Owner’s project teams also provides him with a holistic understanding of project delivery, enabling a fully fit-for-purpose solution for each project that he leads.
Stefan’s detailed portfolio includes EPCM projects for a variety of commodities, including gold, iron ore, oil sands, diamonds, power, biodiesel, magnesium, and pulp & paper. At Ausenco, he is leading the delivery of the detailed design and engineering for the Hardrock Project, a 27,000 tpd gold processing plant in Northern Ontario, Canada. His key project portfolio also includes project management roles for the Victor Diamond Project, an open pit diamond mine in Ontario, and the Kearl Oil Sands Project, an EPCM open-pit oil sands mining project in Alberta, Canada – both projects were delivered on-budget and ahead of their planned schedules.
Stefan has a master’s in civil & structural engineering from the Technical University in Bulgaria, and a master’s in project management from Penn State University, USA.
